Hypnotherapy can often help relieve insomnia.

There are different types of insomnia:

  • Chronic insomnia – a long-term pattern of being unable to sleep
  • Comorbid insomnia – difficulty sleeping because of another medical or psychological condition. For example anxiety or depression, or chronic pain
  • Onset insomnia – difficulty falling asleep
  • Maintenance insomnia – difficulty staying asleep

Whatever your type of insomnia hypnotherapy can address the underlying causes and help you to get a good nights sleep.

How can hypnotherapy help insomnia?

Hypnotherapy for insomnia is gentle and calming.

Insomnia is often caused by stress, anxiety, past trauma or it may be as a result of a depressive condition. Hypnosis helps us get to the root cause of your sleeping problem and create a new sense of calm.

Hypnotherapy acts in two ways to help you sleep.

Firstly, the soothing hypnotic process lowers the arousal of the autonomic nervous system so that your stress levels fall, and you feel more calm and in control. This also helps you to better manage ongoing stressful situations.

Secondly, using hypnosis we can resolve the symptoms of grief, trauma, anxiety or other related conditions. When the symptoms are resolved your entire system feels lighter, more relaxed and so you are better able to sleep.

If the problem is due to pain, hypnosis can help in relieving pain in some cases.

 

Individually Designed Treatment Programs

Research has shown that by using deep relaxation and specific therapies to remove the cause of the sleep issue, clients can achieve a sound nights sleep again.

Together we will fully explore your situation and identify the potential causes of your sleep problem. Then I will design an individualised program incorporating an appropriate type of therapy for you to help you regain your capacity to sleep well.

How many sessions will it take?

As each person has individual needs, there is no one answer to this question. However, I usually find that clients need between four and six hypnotherapy for insomnia sessions to achieve that state of calm that will allow them to sleep. The more complex the issues the more sessions are needed.

This is effective if your insomnia is due to general stress, but is not recommended if you suffer from anxiety or depression, as specific targeted therapy is needed for these conditions.

You should book an appointment if you need more specialised care.
